We asked Jeffrey Cooper of FootballPredictions.com to share his opinions on the top contestants for the EPL Golden Boot.
According to Jeffrey, the English Premier League has never been stronger. Each contender for the title has a couple of top-class strikers to choose from, and it remains to be seen who is going to win the EPL Golden Boot for the 2017/2018 season. Harry Kane is on a quest to defend his trophy, but that is easier said than done.
Over the years Romelu Lukaku has established himself as one of the best forwards in the Premier League. The Belgian attacker impressed in the 2016/2017 season, scoring 25 goals for the Toffees in the process and, as a result, Manchester United chiefs decided to bring him to Old Trafford. Lukaku has been scoring goals for fun at the start of the new season and it is no surprise he is regarded as No. 1 favorite to win the EPL Golden Boot. Man Utd’s style of play obviously suits the former Everton striker, and he is expected to shine in the English top flight this term.
Harry Kane looked unstoppable in the English elite division last season, with the Tottenham Hotspur attacker scoring 29 goals in 30 league games for Spurs. The England forward unfortunate not to find the net in the first two games of the new season (Newcastle and Chelsea), but has since added 6 goals to his goal-scoring account. The club chiefs did well to keep hold of star players in the summer transfer window, and that is the main reason why I believe Harry Kane will enjoy yet another season to remember. You should bear in mind that he is after his third consecutive EPL Golden Boot.
Jamie Vardy was part of a historical Leicester City squad that won the 2015/2016 Premier League title and he scored no less than 24 goals in the process. Kun Aguero eventually finished the season as the EPL top scorer, but, no doubt, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez were the key to the Foxes’ success in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign. The experienced attacker was not as successful in the English top flight last term, but he has been producing fine performances ever since Craig Shakespeare took over the reins. Vardy scored a brace in a 4-3 loss to Arsenal in Leicester’s opener and, no doubt, he is going to play an important role in Craig Shakespeare’s team in the remainder of the season.
Sergio Kun Aguero
Kun Aguero is no longer as sharp as he used to be in the past. The Argentine attacker has been struggling to find his form at the start of the new Premier League campaign and the lack of confidence seems to be the main problem for the former Atletico Madrid attacker at the moment. Kun Aguero did score in the opening match of the season against Brighton, but he failed to impress in a 1-1 draw with Everton and, as a result, he was left on the bench for the Bournemouth game. Taking everything into account, I do not believe that the Argentina international is going to finish the season as the EPL top goal scorer.
Arsenal chiefs did remarkably well to sign Alexandre Lacazette in the summer transfer window and, no doubt, they made the right decision when they brought the French attacker to Emirates Stadium. The former Lyon man made life difficult for Leicester City defenders in the opening match of the season and he had a goal ruled out for offside in a 1-0 loss to Stoke City. Anyhow, the pacey attacker looks sharp in front of goal and he is expected to have a number of goals at his account this season.
